Fun on the fiddle board - here's how!
Many cats and dogs really like having to "work" for their food or a treat, as food games stimulate the natural search and hunting instinct. With a so-called fumble board or food toy, your dog or cat can playfully improve their paw skills, do nose work and learn to solve problems in a creative way. The reward is success when the food has been captured.
Another important point: food toys prevent your pet from getting bored. Fiddling boards can prevent or mitigate behavioural problems. For older animals, fiddling is a great way of exercising the brain.
Intelligence toys are available as a stationary "fiddle board" or as a moving object, such as a roller or ball. You can choose from a large number of intelligence toys in specialised shops or get creative yourself and make exciting food puzzles. Suitable objects for this include

Avoid frustration
If your cat or dog doesn't yet know any intelligence toys or is still very young or very old, you shouldn't make the first steps too difficult. Start with a fiddle board that has large openings that are easy to see. This way, your pet can not only smell the treats, but also see them. He can easily reach it with his paws and if it's a roll or a ball, the treat will fall out of the openings quickly and easily as it rolls around.
Fill the fiddly toy generously at the beginning so that your dog or cat has a quick sense of achievement. If there is too little inside or it is difficult to reach, frustration will increase and your pet will lose interest. You can also scatter a few pieces around the toy at the beginning or place them on the edge so that the connection between the food and the toy becomes clear. If it is still too difficult, train together with your pet. Show him how to move the toy or how to get a treat out with your fingers.
As soon as your pet has a little more experience, you can offer more challenging fiddle boards. For example, with smaller openings or more hiding places and obstacles.
