Nutritional counselling for adult dogs

From when to when should the Adult line be fed?

As soon as the animal is almost or fully grown, you should switch to the Liebesgut Adult line, which is optimised to meet the needs of an adult dog.

How high is the maintenance requirement of adult dogs?

The addition of too many nutrients should be avoided in order to protect the dog's metabolism. Too much energy also means that instead of further growth, the energy is converted into fat and the dog becomes fat. A dog's maintenance requirements depend to a large extent on how active it is and how it is kept. For particularly active dogs, we recommend the product BIO-Rind Adult with courgette and rice flakes. For animals that tend to be overweight, the sheep variety with organic celery and potato is preferable. The BIO Chicken with root vegetables and amaranth variety with a moderate energy content is suitable for sprightly seniors.

How often and how much should adult dogs be fed?

This always depends on the breed and the dog's activity level. The guideline is 50g of food per kg of dog body mass per day. You can view our feeding recommendations here.

Dogs that live outside need more energy because they have to regulate their heat balance more. Long-haired dogs tend to need more energy because a lot of energy is used to produce new fur, especially during the shedding period. A hunting or sporting dog usually moves much more than a family dog that sleeps for several hours in between. The time of year also plays a role. As with humans, dogs have less appetite in hot weather. The animal then also moves less.

You should always feed your dog at the same time, preferably split into two meals. For most animals and owners, mornings and evenings are ideal. After feeding, the animal should always be able to rest. It will also not be in the mood for much exercise.

Which variety from the Liebesgut Adult line is suitable for my dog?

As a general rule, dogs should eat what they like. Only in cases of medical necessity, e.g. overweight, should you react by reducing the quantity or changing the variety.
However, the following recommendations can be given as a guide:

Organic beef with courgette and rice flakes: For very active dogs with a lot of outdoor exercise or working and sporting dogs. Hunting or herding dogs, for example, have double the maintenance requirement, depending on the amount of work they do. The longer the exercise lasts, the more the dog draws on fatty acids as an energy source. This means that for dogs that are exercised over a longer period of time, high-fat rations are more favourable than high-carbohydrate rations. If the protein supply is insufficient, anaemia can develop in intensively working dogs. The high crude fibre content supports digestion, which is necessary given the high energy intake.

Organic chicken with root vegetables and amaranth and sheep with celery and potato: Particularly suitable for normally active dogs due to the moderate energy content. Organic chicken has a higher ash content due to the addition of carcass and is recommended for dogs with mineral deficiencies. ORGANIC Sheep ensures good digestion thanks to the addition of potatoes with a higher fibre content.
