Frequently asked questions about amaranth for dogs

Is amaranth also suitable for dogs with known food allergies?

Yes, because amaranth is gluten-free and is therefore also suitable for dogs that suffer from gluten intolerance. The pseudo-cereal also poses absolutely no problem for allergies and hypersensitivities to other cereal ingredients. Plants should never be completely ignored in a dog's diet. However, if your dog cannot tolerate potatoes, cereals and only a few types of vegetables, this can be problematic. Switching to a daily portion of amaranth mixed into your dog's food will provide your dog with the right amount of valuable vegetable proteins, vital nutrients and nutrients as well as iron, calcium and magnesium. Food allergy sufferers will no longer experience itching and will no longer suffer from gluten-related eczema.

Can puppies be given food with amaranth?

Puppies can be given amaranth as a food supplement. For very young puppies who are just starting to be fed amaranth, it is recommended that you introduce them to the grain slowly and only feed them a small amount of very well-softened amaranth. How much you give depends on the size and total food requirements of your puppy. Basically, 10% is a guideline that is suitable for puppies, middle-aged dogs and senior dogs alike. As with all new ingredients, it is important that you try out amaranth and then slowly increase the amount to 10%.

How much amaranth should my dog get per day?

A lot does not help a lot. This also applies to feeding the healthy pseudocereal amaranth. If your dog receives a total of 500g of food per day, the maximum amount of amaranth added should be 50g. The 10 % rule can be converted to all feed quantities and is therefore very easy to adhere to. If you give too much, diarrhoea or other digestive problems can occur despite easy digestibility. If amaranth is already included as an ingredient in the dog food, it is not necessary to add more and should be avoided. Start with a smaller amount and slowly introduce your dog to the daily dose of supplementary food. This is the best way for him to tolerate the soaked amaranth.

Can side effects occur when feeding amaranth?

If your dog is very sensitive to food and is prone to itching or indigestion, food intolerances may occur, but these have nothing to do with amaranth. If you feed too much, diarrhoea or constipation may occur. A quick change of food to amaranth dog food can also affect your dog's digestion. If you introduce your four-legged friend to amaranth slowly and monitor his tolerance, there will be no side effects or undesirable side effects. Caution: However, too much amaranth can cause your dog to gain weight. Always observe the recommended daily dose.
