Why do some ingredients not have organic certification?
Of course, at Liebesgut we try to source all our ingredients from certified organic sources. Where no organic label is available, we still source our ingredients sustainably. For example, game meat (such as venison or hare) comes from sustainable hunting. These types of meat may only carry the organic label if they come from organic farms. However, this contradicts our mission to keep our food as natural as possible. That is why we guarantee that our dog food has been produced in the most environmentally conscious way possible.
If I feed my pet Liebesgut pet food, do I need to add any supplements to the food to meet my pet's nutritional requirements?
If you alternate between the different varieties of Liebesgut pet food from time to time, your four-legged friend's basic needs will be covered. This variety is important to ensure that your pet can consume different vitamins and protein sources. No further additions to the food are necessary.
However, please ensure that you use the correct dosage of the products!
What is the best way to store opened dog food?
It is important to store dog food in a dry and cool place. Once opened, pet food can be kept in a tightly sealed tin in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. However, the same applies here as with other foods: always check the consistency and smell!
After taking the tin out of the refrigerator, please leave it at room temperature for a while before offering the food to your pet. Only then will it be particularly tasty.
How much food should my dog get each day?
As with humans, portion sizes vary depending on the animal and its activity level. You will find valuable tips and guidelines on the correct amount of food for your dog on our dog food packaging. However, only you know your dog and its individual needs well enough. Our feeding recommendations are therefore intended as a guide only. It is very important for your pet's health that its physical condition is checked regularly and the amount of food adjusted as necessary.
My pet cannot tolerate normal pet food – what can I do?
As a general rule, if you do not know what persistent intolerances are causing your pet's dull coat, inflammation, diarrhoea or similar symptoms, please consult your vet or seek advice from a dog nutritionist.
However, the most common allergic reactions in pets are caused by grains in their food or by airborne pollen, for example. It is also possible that your pet is allergic to a certain type of meat in their food – or to ingredients in it. In this case, we recommend special exclusion diets to find out exactly which substances are responsible for the problems.
From our experience, we can confirm that many animals are particularly sensitive to artificial additives such as preservatives and chemical supplements. That is why our pet food is completely gluten- and lactose-free and produced without chemical additives.
Many supposed intolerances to certain types of meat or other foods can be avoided with healthy and balanced premium food.
What are the differences between feeding puppies and adult dogs?
Of course, the nutritional requirements of young dogs differ from those of older dogs. Puppies and young dogs need significantly larger amounts of food, while older and slightly less active dogs tend to need less pet food. However, puppies should not be overfed, as their growth plates do not close until after one year and being overweight is extremely harmful to bone development and joints. For this reason, the general recommendation is to switch to normal adult dog food at around six months to a year (depending on the breed; smaller breeds need puppy food for longer, larger breeds for less time), but more precise age recommendations also depend on the breed of dog.
Not all dogs necessarily need special food in old age. If the dog is still healthy and shows consistent activity, there is no reason not to continue feeding it normal dog food. However, if age-related problems and inactivity occur, a switch to a gentle diet should be made to avoid discomfort and obesity.
